Hearty cheers hail Castle Craigs riders

True spirit fights like lightning

THE refusal of Cornet Kenneth Donaldson to give in to the atrocious weather conditions on Friday has helped stamp the 1985 Langholm Common Riding down in the memories of Langholm folk, returned exiles, and friends as one of the most courageous ever.

AT A meeting of the supporters of the Common Riding held in the Town Hall about a fortnight ago, Mr James Lauder, blacksmith, was elected Cornet of this year. The sports are to be held this year on the holm above Langholm Lodge.

Cornet Paisley won by 7 votes

CHARLES Stewart Paisley, the 1935 Cornet, came from a well-known business family in the town and he still has relatives living here today, including his sister-in-law, Rosie Paisley, who is now 90.
